The Tanzania Bankers Association (TBA) is continuing its financial literacy initiatives in Zanzibar by providing financial education to Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) as part of activities marking the Association’s 30th Anniversary.

The initiative seeks to strengthen the financial knowledge and capabilities of entrepreneurs while supporting greater access to financial services and financing opportunities.

Supporting MSME Financial Knowledge

MSMEs play an important role in Tanzania’s economy by contributing to employment creation, entrepreneurship, innovation and economic growth.

However, many small businesses continue to face challenges related to financial management, access to finance and understanding available financial products and services.

Through financial literacy education, TBA is helping entrepreneurs understand important aspects of financial management and make better-informed business decisions.

Key Areas of Financial Education

The sessions covered practical financial management concepts relevant to the day-to-day operations of small and medium-sized businesses.

  • Financial planning and budgeting.
  • Saving and responsible financial management.
  • Understanding financial products and services.
  • Accessing appropriate financing opportunities.
  • Managing business finances effectively.
  • Making informed financial decisions.

Promoting Inclusive Economic Growth

Improving financial literacy among MSMEs contributes to broader financial inclusion by enabling entrepreneurs to better understand and utilize formal financial services.

Better financial knowledge can also support business sustainability and improve entrepreneurs’ ability to plan, manage risks and identify opportunities for growth.

Celebrating 30 Years of TBA

The initiative forms part of the activities being undertaken by TBA to mark 30 years of supporting and representing Tanzania’s banking industry.

The financial literacy activities in Zanzibar also form part of preparations for the TBA Research and Financial Inclusion Conference 2026 , which brings together stakeholders to discuss research, policy, innovation and opportunities related to financial inclusion and MSME financing.

By continuing to invest in financial education, TBA aims to contribute to a more informed, inclusive and resilient financial ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs and communities across Tanzania.

TBA's financial literacy initiative supports MSMEs with practical knowledge to improve financial management and access appropriate financial services.
